Coralie Saint-Louis is the founder of Enpak Social, a new social app that rethinks the way social media provides value to its users by providing high quality journalism in their feed.
Coralie Saint-Louis grew up in Haiti, a country which has a reputation for being corrupt and tumultuous. This background planted the seed of her interest in local news and information.
Coralie grew up listening to the news with her dad, and realized early on the discrepancy between international media and the reality in her home country. She realized that she’d like to do something about it, and started working in journalism.
Coralie spent a decade working in international news and local news media before leaving to start Enpak Social. Enpak is a mobile app designed to connect people and communities through shared interests and local news
On this episode of Small Press, Big Ideas, I talk with Coralie about the disconnect between journalists and the local communities that they serve. She talks about the need to build back trust in news media, especially in marginalized communities.
Coralie talks about the pitfalls of people using social media for news and information, and the need for people to look for the original source. Enpak seeks to solve this problem.
Enpak is open to everyone, with posting capabilities open to all on the social media part of the app. The innovation is on the newsfeed side: only verified reporters are able to post content in the newsfeed, providing trustworthy, accountable journalism in the social feed.
Coralie talks about educating journalists on how to use the app, bootstrapping the project, Enpak’s business model, and their plan going forward, including her plan to start fundraising in the near future.
